Scuba mask

If you are scuba diving and water finds its way inside of your scuba mask, there is a certain procedure you need to follow to ensure safety. If your mask fills with water, your visibility is limited. Whilst becoming a certified diver, you will learn how to deal with this problem.

When you are in the water, follow the next few tips in order to ensure safety and improve visibility. If you are doing this to show that you can receive your certification, you should:
• Completely submerse yourself in the water – You need to be immersed so that you can simulate what it would be like in the ocean.
• Pull the mask away from your face – You need to pull at least a little bit to make sure that you have room to work, but do not break the elastic.
• Allow the water to flood your mask – You must do this to show that you know how to deal with water in the mask.
• Do not panic – easier said than done, but if you practice enough there should be no panic involved. Practicing for this will allow you to be prepared in real life if something like this ever occurs.
• Keep breathing – Remember that you still have a snorkel or a regulator. Just because your mask is flooded, does not mean you can’t breathe. In fact, breathing regularly is one of the steps involved in remaining calm.
• Tilt your head – Then slowly and gently tilt your head backwards just a little bit. Do not do it so far as to where it is uncomfortable.
• Press the mask – You should press the mask against your forehead. This should be done only with one hand and it is best to get it done in just one push.
• Remember to breathe – Once again, breathing during this is very important. You should take a deep breath gain through the snorkel or the regulator.
• Exhale – This step is important. You need to gently exhale the air through your nose. The air that you exhale will force out the water gathered inside of your mask.
• Replace the scuba mask – When the mask is completely void of water, you should replace the mask on your face, ensuring that it has a snug fit.
• Continue – Continue your breathing techniques. You are finished.

While no single part of this process is overly difficult, knowing each step of how to clear your scuba mask of water is an intricate process that must be followed with precision.
