Scuba regulator

While nobody disputes the necessity of a scuba regulator, there are those who simply do not know how important it is to not only use them, but also maintain them so they stay in good working shape.

It is a fact that these hoses are under tons of pressure when they are in use. Because of this, the hoses are required to be both strong as well as flexible. If you care for them in a proper manner, they should last you for many years. If they are not maintained, there is no guarantee.

In order to try to keep scuba regulator and hoses in good shape, you may want to follow these tips:
• Inspect before each dive – Before you even get into the water, it is best if you check for things such as bulges, cracks, fraying or abrasion. Check the hose protectors as well.
• Replace hoses with damage – If you see ant damage on a hose – even if it appears insignificant -- it is important to change as soon as possible. It might cost you a few dollars, but this is a small price to pay for safety and assurance.
• Rinse after the dive – After every dive that you rake, you will want to rinse your scuba regulator and hoses. It is important to do a thorough rinse. This means that you should push back the hose protectors and rinse underneath as well.
• Keep the hoses straight – It is important to make sure that you do not bend your hoses more than just a little bit. If you fold them for travel or storage, you run the risk of causing irreparable damage. When storing the hoses, simply hang them straight.
• Pack carefully – If you pack the hose alongside any hard or heavy objects, you could be asking for trouble. Hard objects, like a plastic mask case, could dent hoses if they are stacked on top of them.
• Apply protectant – By applying just a light silicon-based spray protector, you will be able to prevent dry-rot during storage.

By doing each of the above things with your scuba regulator hoses, you will be able to keep them in good operating shape and protect your investment.
